SLEIDSE TRAINS FUTURE BUSINESS INCUBATOR MANAGERS

On October 19th 2017, the SLEIDSE programme, financed by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France, has received the Presidents of some of the most prestigious Libyan Universities (Almargeb, Benghazi, Jabel Gharbi, Misurata, Sebha, Sirt, Tripoli, Tubraq, Zawia) in Tunis for a workshop and a commencement ceremony.

They gathered, along with representatives of the Libyan Ministry of Higher Education and several project stakeholders, to take stock of the progress made in the preparation of 10 University Start-Up Labs (USULs) throughout the country.

This positive and constructive meeting allowed them and their partner Libya Enterprise to identify and deal with several pending issues linked to the creation of such business incubators. In particular, the question of their legal status and their operational abilities will be resolved in time for their official opening in March 2018.

Since the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding with these Universities, in June 2017, SLEIDSE has developed an ambitious training programme for future USUL managers, which is being carried out over several months. SLEIDSE experts have organised a series of training sessions on numerous skills (management, Incubator design, institutional communication, HR etc.. ) and on specialised topics such as selection process for entrepreneurs or the layout of incubation processes.

USUL incubator managers will be ready to manage their new incubators, in line with international standards, by March 2018.

In facilitating the creation of new businesses by students, Libyan Universities encourage the development of innovation and private-sector business networks, and pave the way for a new entrepreneurial culture in Libya. In the long run, such activities are also certain to help young Libyans create livelihoods and employment in their country.
