Access to Finance Workshop

On August 4th, SLEIDSE organises a workshop to present the outcomes & results on the solutions to improve access of SMEs to finance in Libya, with the presence of the European Union Ambassador Bettina Muscheidt.
The meeting, which is placed under the patronage of and the Libyan Ministers of Planning, Finance, Economy, the Central Bank of Libya, Libya Enterprise and the National Guarantee Fund, is organised by SLEIDSE programme, which is financed by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France. SLEIDSE is a $7.8 million programme aiming to promote the development of small and medium enterprises capable of creating employment and livelihoods in Libya.
The meeting will be in the presence of the National public authorities, public and private banks such as the National Commerce Bank, Waha Bank, Jumhouria Bank, Wahda Bank, Sahara Bank, Alsaray Bank, First Gulf Libyan Bank, business communities. International players like the World Bank, the International Finance Cooperation, the European Union and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development will also attend this event to discuss the outcomes, results and proposed action plan in order to support the growth of SMEs through the development of financial market services.
The main points that will be tackled are:
- Setting up a micro finance product in Libya to support young entrepreneurs in developing micro businesses. The study and way forward will be presented by ADIE France and moderated by Taher Sarkes, Deputy Minister of Finance of Libya and Marouane El Abassi, Director of World Bank in Libya.
- Reactivating the National Guarantee Fund to enable banks to lend money to SMEs owners. This activity will be presented BPI France and moderated by Abdelati Ghneiwa Mkeilib, Director of the National Guarantee Fund and Mohamed Alaswad, SLEIDSE Project Deputy Team Leader.
- Building a credit mediation to enable SMEs to effectively access to finance by facilitating the dialogue between the private sector operators and banks. This topic will be moderated by Christian Formagne; Dr. Mokhtar Taweel, Director of banks & credit control at CBL will present the credit mediation and its associated benefits.
- Launching a crowdfunding platform in Libya to provide young entrepreneurs with a tool to fund their innovation by Libyan communities, presented by Arnaud Laurent, CEO of Baby Loan, and moderated by Abubaker Ghafal, Deputy Minister of Finance, and Saleh Almistri, SLEIDSE expert in access to finance.
